From the initial phone call to the finished product, it was a joy working with Thomas on selecting, buying and building the commercial sauna for Bothán Sauna. We looked at a few options but went with Polaris because of Thomas's professionalism and his quick, knowledgeable responses. We ordered the 3 x 2.2m cube. We opted for the thermowood upgrade due to our windy location. It's rated for six occupancy, but it's far more spacious than that suggests, and it has great height too, which suits our 6ft 3in brother. When our own build fell behind, Thomas kindly held delivery until we were ready. It was a godsend. No extra charge just very helpful and understanding. Thomas and Jorge, his very talented carpenter, built the sauna on site over three days. What we loved most was their attention to detail. No shortcuts, and it makes all the difference. We had one snag during testing after the build. Not an issue: Jorge was back a couple of days later to fix it, and everything has worked perfectly since. We're excited to be up and running and delighted we chose Polaris. We highly recommend them to anyone buying a new sauna. Nora and Diane, Bothán SaunaPosted on Google![]()

I purchased a barrel sauna from Thomas in August 2026. Thomas was utterly professional, conscientious, and a pleasure to deal with. The sauna was fitted in Waterville Co.Kerry, and the premises isn't the easiest place to access. However, Thomas and his fitter Jörg assembled the sauna on-site over a couple of days and kept us up to date at all times with the developments. The finished job was outstanding, my family and I are delighted with it. Top marks to Polaris Saunas, Thomas and his team.Posted on Google![]()

Thomas provided expert guidance and helped plan the perfect Sauna project for my garden, addressing all the unique challenges of my home. His clear communication and detailed advice made decision-making easy. Installation by Thomas and Joerg was flawless, and the quality of their work is outstanding. I’ve been using the Sauna regularly, and the attention to post-installation care has been fantastic. Their flexibility and professionalism throughout were impressive. I highly recommend them for anyone considering a Sauna – an exceptional team delivering exceptional results!Posted on Google![]()

From start to finish, we cannot recommend Thomas and his team highly enough. From the initial meeting to discussing options, to agreeing the final product and then installation, was first class. The attention to detail, the pre and post installation, advice and help to two novices was excellent. We are delighted with the final product and look forward to working with Thomas again in the future as a hot tub is next on the list.Posted on Google![]()

I couldn’t recommend Thomas and his team Moore. We chose the smallest Sauna as we needed to fit it in a narrow space and his website was the first one we found but not even knowing him his pre-and post insulation service has been fantastic. The sauna is also brilliant.Posted on Google![]()

I recently purchased a sauna from Thomas at Polaris Sauna, and I honestly couldn’t be happier with both the product and the service. After a very disappointing experience with another sauna company—where I was left waiting for three months and then completely ignored when I tried to follow up—I was understandably hesitant about buying again. However, Thomas completely restored my confidence. From the very beginning, he was kind, patient, and incredibly knowledgeable. He took the time to walk me through the best option for my space and how I intended to use the sauna. No matter how many times I called or how many questions I had, he was always calm, understanding, and genuinely helpful. Nothing ever felt like too much trouble. The sauna itself is working perfectly, and it’s clear that great care went into ensuring everything was just right—even down to supplying the exact amount of stones needed. If all customer service was like this, life would be a lot easier. I would highly recommend Thomas at Polaris Sauna to anyone considering a sauna. An absolute pleasure to deal with from start to finish. I wish Thomas the very bestPosted on Google![]()

Owning a garden sauna offers numerous health and lifestyle benefits:
Stress Reduction: Regular sauna sessions can help alleviate stress and promote relaxation.
Improved Circulation: The heat from the sauna stimulates blood flow, which can aid in muscle recovery and overall cardiovascular health.
Detoxification: Sweating in the sauna helps eliminate toxins from the body.
Enhanced Skin Health: Sauna use can improve skin tone and elasticity by increasing blood circulation.
Convenience: Having a sauna at home means you can enjoy these benefits at your leisure, without the need to visit a spa or gym.
In Ireland, you may not require planning permission for a garden sauna if it meets certain criteria:
Size: The sauna should not exceed 30 square meters in floor area.
Free Space: At least 30 square meters of open space must remain in your garden after installation.
Height: The structure should not exceed 3 meters in height for a flat roof or 4 meters for a pitched roof.
Location: The sauna must be situated to the rear or side of your property and not in front of the house.
Usage: The building should not be used for living or sleeping accommodation.
It's important to note that these are general guidelines, and local regulations may vary. Therefore, it's advisable to consult with your local planning authority to confirm whether your specific project requires planning permission.
A solid and level foundation is crucial for the longevity and safety of your garden sauna. Common foundation options include:
Concrete Slab: Provides a durable and stable base, ideal for permanent installations.
Gravel Bed: Offers good drainage and is suitable for barrel saunas or other lightweight structures.
Paving Stones: An aesthetically pleasing option that also ensures stability.
Screw pile foundation: Suitable for almost all ground conditions and easy to install, this foundation option is also available for your garden sauna.
The choice of foundation depends on the sauna's design, weight, and your garden's soil conditions. Consulting with a professional installer can help determine the best foundation for your specific situation.
The heating time of a garden sauna depends on factors such as the sauna size, insulation, heater output and outdoor temperature. Under normal conditions, most garden saunas take approximately one hour to reach the desired temperature, whether they are heated with an electric or wood-fired heater.
Regular maintenance is essential to keep your garden sauna in optimal condition:
Cleaning: Wipe down benches and walls with a mild, non-abrasive cleaner after use to prevent mold and mildew.
Ventilation: Ensure proper airflow to keep the interior dry and prevent moisture buildup.
Heater Inspection: Check the heater and electrical connections periodically for any signs of wear or damage.
Wood Treatment: Depending on the wood type, occasional treatment with appropriate oils or sealants may be necessary to protect against weathering.
Roof and Exterior: Inspect the roof and exterior walls for any signs of damage or leaks, especially after severe weather.
Adhering to a regular maintenance schedule will extend the life of your sauna and ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.
When building a garden sauna, selecting the right materials is crucial for durability, insulation, and overall sauna experience. Commonly used woods include:
Cedar: Known for its resistance to moisture, decay, and insects, cedar also emits a pleasant aroma, enhancing the sauna ambiance.
Spruce: A cost-effective option, spruce offers good insulation properties and a light color that brightens the sauna interior.
Thermowood: This heat-treated wood boasts improved stability and resistance to moisture, making it ideal for outdoor saunas.
For the interior, it's essential to use wood that remains comfortable to the touch at high temperatures and doesn't secrete resin. Additionally, materials should be able to withstand the fluctuating temperatures and humidity levels typical of sauna use.
In Ireland's climate, it's advisable to choose materials that can endure damp conditions and temperature variations. Proper treatment and maintenance will also extend the lifespan of your garden sauna, ensuring years of relaxation and wellness benefits.
Most homes in Ireland and the UK have a standard 230 V single-phase electrical supply.
Electric sauna heaters from manufacturers such as Harvia and HUUM are designed to operate on both 230 V single-phase and 400 V three-phase connections, depending on the heater size and your house supply.
Smaller heaters up to around 6–9 kW can often be installed on standard single-phase 230 V supply, subject to assessment by a qualified electrician. Larger heaters may require either a three-phase supply, a main fuse upgrade, or a load-management solution.
The key factor is not the heater itself, but the available capacity of your home’s main service fuse and the correct cable installation.
For this reason, all electric sauna heaters must be installed by a qualified electrician appointed by the customer, who will confirm the correct connection method for the property.
