Outdoor Sauna & Wood-Fired Hot Tub Installation in County Clare

For this residential wellness project in County Clare, Polaris Sauna installed a 2.4m Comfort Cube Sauna together with a 1.8m × 1.8m wooden hot tub.

The sauna was equipped with a Harvia M3 wood-burning sauna stove, while the hot tub was fitted with an external wood-fired stove, circulation pump, filtration system and a 2 kW electric auxiliary heater to help maintain the water temperature.

The location offered fantastic views across the surrounding landscape and cliffs, making it an ideal setting for a combined outdoor sauna and hot tub area.

One of the main challenges of the project was access to the garden. The hot tub had to be carefully transported down a set of steps before it could be positioned in its final location.

The complete sauna and hot tub installation was carried out by two installers over approximately three days.

Moving the Hot Tub into the Garden

Access is an important consideration when installing a large wooden hot tub.

For this project, there was no direct level route from the delivery area to the final hot tub position.

Instead, the 1.8m × 1.8m hot tub had to be carried down a set of steps leading into the garden.

Lifting straps were positioned around the hot tub to provide secure handling and distribute the weight while it was being moved.

With additional assistance provided by the customer, the hot tub could then be carefully carried down the steps and into the garden.

This made it possible to complete the installation without using a crane or other specialist lifting equipment.

Once the hot tub had reached the garden, it was moved into its final position and prepared for the installation of the stove, pump, filtration system and auxiliary heater.

Wood-Fired Hot Tub with Pump and Filtration System

The wooden hot tub was equipped with an external wood-fired stove as its primary heating source.

Wood-fired hot tubs offer a traditional and simple way of heating the water and are particularly well suited to outdoor locations where customers want the atmosphere of a real fire as part of the experience.

The installation also included a circulation pump and filtration system.

The pump circulates the water through the filter, making the hot tub easier to maintain during regular use.

In addition to the wood-fired stove, a 2 kW electric auxiliary heater was installed.

The electric heater is designed primarily to help maintain the water temperature once the hot tub has already been heated with the wood-fired stove.

This combination allows the wood-fired stove to provide the main heating power while the electric heater can help reduce temperature loss between bathing sessions.

Preparing the Sauna Installation Area

The 2.4m Comfort Cube Sauna was positioned in a sheltered corner of the garden.

Before the sauna could be assembled, some nearby tree branches had to be trimmed to create sufficient space around the installation area.

This was a relatively simple adjustment and did not cause any significant delay to the project.

Once the area had been cleared, the sauna components could be organised beside the final position and assembly could begin.

The sauna was supplied as a flat-pack and assembled completely on site.

2.4m Comfort Cube Sauna Installation

The 2.4m Comfort Cube provides a spacious outdoor sauna while still fitting comfortably into many residential gardens.

Its rectangular design and straight interior walls allow the available space to be used efficiently for seating and the sauna stove.

For this installation, the work included:

• unloading and organising the flat-pack sauna components
• positioning and aligning the floor structure
• assembling the sauna walls
• fitting the front and rear sections
• completing the roof and exterior finish
• installing the entrance door
• fitting the internal sauna benches
• installing the Harvia M3 sauna stove
• fitting the chimney system
• placing the sauna stones
• checking the structure and internal fittings

Because the sauna was assembled directly in the garden, the individual components could be transported to the final installation position before the complete structure was built.

This can be particularly useful where access for a fully assembled sauna would be difficult.

Harvia M3 Wood-Burning Sauna Stove

The Comfort Cube Sauna was equipped with a Harvia M3 wood-burning sauna stove.

The M3 is a compact traditional sauna stove that is well suited to smaller and medium-sized sauna rooms.

For customers who enjoy heating their sauna with firewood, a wood-burning stove creates a traditional sauna experience and removes the need for a high-powered electrical sauna connection.

The stove was installed together with the required chimney components and sauna stones while maintaining the necessary safety clearances within the sauna.

At the end of the installation, the stove was fired and tested on site.

The Harvia M3 performed very well during the test and allowed the installation team to confirm that the stove and chimney system were operating correctly.

Three-Day Sauna and Hot Tub Installation

The complete project was carried out by two installers over approximately three days.

This included transporting the hot tub into the garden, installing its heating and filtration equipment, preparing the sauna position and completing the full sauna assembly.

Combining a sauna and hot tub within the same project requires careful planning, particularly where garden access is restricted.

In this case, the use of lifting straps and additional assistance from the customer allowed the hot tub to be transported safely into position, while the flat-pack sauna construction made it possible to assemble the sauna directly in the garden.

A Hot Tub with a Fantastic View

One of the highlights of this installation is the position of the hot tub.

From the bathing area, there is a fantastic view across the surrounding landscape and cliffs.

The location makes particularly good use of the garden and creates a very different experience from placing a hot tub purely according to the easiest access route.

When planning an outdoor sauna or hot tub installation, practical considerations such as access, foundations and service connections are important.

However, where possible, the orientation and final position can also be chosen to take advantage of views and the surrounding landscape.

For this project, the hot tub location provides an ideal setting for relaxing outdoors while enjoying the scenery.

Final Result

The completed project combines a 2.4m Comfort Cube Sauna with a 1.8m × 1.8m wood-fired hot tub to create a complete outdoor wellness area in County Clare.

Despite the more challenging garden access, the hot tub could be transported safely down the steps using lifting straps and additional assistance from the customer.

The hot tub combines an external wood-fired stove with a circulation pump, filtration system and 2 kW auxiliary electric heater, providing traditional wood-fired heating together with additional convenience for regular use.

The Comfort Cube Sauna was assembled on site and equipped with a Harvia M3 wood-burning sauna stove, which was successfully tested after installation.

Some minor tree trimming was required to prepare the sauna position, but the overall project was completed without difficulty by two installers over approximately three days.

With the sauna positioned in a sheltered part of the garden and the hot tub overlooking the surrounding cliffs and landscape, the finished installation creates a dedicated outdoor space for year-round sauna and bathing sessions.
