Premium Cube Sauna Installation in Drogheda – Built on Screw-Pile Foundations

Delivering a fully assembled outdoor sauna always requires careful planning. At unusual locations, however, the logistical challenges can be significantly greater.

For this project, Polaris Sauna delivered a fully assembled 4.8m Premium Cube Sauna to Outcasts at Howth Harbour in North Dublin.

The sauna arrived fully assembled on a transport vehicle and was unloaded using a telehandler. From the unloading point, it then had to be transported approximately 100 to 200 metres through the marina to its final location.

The route included numerous boats and other obstacles, requiring precise planning, an experienced telehandler operator and close coordination between everyone involved.

At the final installation area, the sauna could not be placed directly in the required orientation. It therefore had to be suspended from the telehandler forks and rotated by approximately 90 degrees while hanging freely in the air.

The result is a spacious and well-equipped sauna that is available to members of the marina and fits perfectly into its distinctive waterfront setting.

Project Overview

The sauna was supplied with the following specification:

The 4.8m Premium Cube Sauna provides a particularly spacious interior and is well suited to larger groups and shared sauna facilities.

Its modern shape, premium interior finish and powerful wood-burning stove make it an excellent choice for marinas, sports clubs, hotels and other private or membership-based facilities.

Fully Assembled Sauna Delivery

Unlike a traditional flat-pack sauna installation, this Premium Cube Sauna was delivered as a fully assembled structure.

A fully assembled delivery considerably reduces the amount of construction work required at the final location. At the same time, it creates greater demands in terms of transport, unloading and precise positioning.

The 4.8m sauna was transported to Howth Harbour on a suitable specialist vehicle.

After arrival, a telehandler was used to lift the complete sauna structure from the transporter. The forks were carefully positioned beneath the sauna so that it could be lifted and unloaded safely.

Due to the size and weight of the sauna, clear communication between the installation team, the transport driver and the telehandler operator was essential throughout the process.

Transporting the Sauna Through Howth Marina

Unloading the sauna was only the first stage of the delivery.

The final installation location was approximately 100 to 200 metres away from the unloading point. The fully assembled sauna therefore had to be carried through the marina on the forks of the telehandler.

Howth Harbour is an active marina. Numerous boats and other obstacles were positioned along the route to the installation area.

This made the transport process both unusual and technically demanding.

The telehandler operator carefully navigated the sauna through the marina, manoeuvring around the boats with considerable precision.

Throughout the journey, the sauna structure had to remain stable and secure on the forks. At the same time, sufficient clearance had to be maintained from the boats and other equipment around the harbour.

Thanks to the operator’s experience and controlled handling of the machine, the sauna reached the planned installation area safely.

Rotating the Sauna While Suspended

Reaching the final installation area did not complete the delivery process.

Due to the direction of access, the sauna could not be lowered directly into its intended orientation. The entire 4.8m structure first had to be rotated by approximately 90 degrees.

To achieve this, the fully assembled sauna was securely suspended from the telehandler forks. This allowed it to hang freely and be rotated in a controlled manner while elevated above the ground.

This stage required particular precision.

The long sauna structure had to remain stable throughout the rotation while also being aligned accurately with the prepared installation area. Controlled movements by the telehandler operator and clear guidance from the installation team were essential.

Once the correct orientation had been reached, the sauna was carefully lowered and positioned precisely on the prepared base.

Its final position and alignment were then checked.

Harvia Legend 240 GreenFlame Sauna Stove

The sauna is heated by a Harvia Legend 240 GreenFlame wood-burning stove.

This powerful stove is particularly well suited to the generous internal volume of the 4.8m Premium Cube Sauna.

The Harvia Legend has a large stone capacity, which helps produce an even and comfortable sauna heat. Approximately 150 kg of sauna stones were installed for this project.

Correct placement of such a large quantity of stones is important.

The stones must be arranged in a way that allows sufficient airflow through the stove. At the same time, they need to cover the heating surfaces properly and create a large heat-retaining mass.

For this reason, the stones were placed carefully by hand rather than simply being poured into the stove.

The large stone mass retains heat effectively and produces soft, traditional sauna steam when water is poured over the hot stones.

Final Chimney Installation

The chimney could not remain fully assembled during transport.

Because of the additional overall height and the risk of damage, the remaining chimney components were installed only after the sauna had been positioned.

Once the sauna was standing securely in its final location, the installation team completed the chimney assembly.

The individual chimney components were connected securely, and the roof penetration area was checked before the stove was prepared for use.

Completing the chimney at the final location protected it during transport while still allowing the sauna to be finished efficiently on site.

Green Roof Shingles

The sauna was finished with green roof shingles.

The green colour complements the natural surroundings of the harbour and gives the Premium Cube Sauna a distinctive but harmonious appearance.

The shingles also provide important protection for the timber roof structure against rain, wind and the changing weather conditions found along the Irish coast.

A robust and weather-resistant roof is particularly important in an exposed waterfront location such as Howth Harbour.

The shingle roof combines this practical protection with a high-quality external finish.

Double-Level Benches With Enclosed Fronts

Inside the sauna, the benches were installed across two levels.

The different seating heights allow users to choose the temperature zone that best suits them. The upper benches normally provide a warmer sauna experience, while the lower level offers slightly gentler heat.

The areas beneath the benches were fully enclosed.

This creates a cleaner, more refined and premium appearance inside the sauna.

The enclosed fronts conceal the supporting structure beneath the benches and give the interior a more substantial and elegant finish.

For a shared sauna used by marina members, this high-quality presentation contributes significantly to the overall sauna experience.

A Members’ Sauna in a Unique Coastal Location

Howth Harbour provides an exceptional setting for an outdoor sauna.

The combination of the marina, sea air and coastal surroundings creates ideal conditions for a traditional sauna experience close to the water.

The sauna is available to members of the marina and adds a high-quality wellness facility to the existing amenities at the harbour.

Delivering such a large sauna into an active marina required considerably more planning than a standard residential garden installation.

The transport route, surrounding boats, lifting equipment, final orientation and chimney installation all had to be considered carefully in advance.

This project demonstrates that even a large, fully assembled sauna can be delivered safely to a demanding and restricted location.

Careful preparation, suitable machinery and experienced operators were the key factors in completing the project successfully.

Final Result

The installation at Outcasts was an excellent example of precise logistics, skilled machinery operation and effective teamwork.

The fully assembled 4.8m Premium Cube Sauna was:

• transported to Howth Harbour
• unloaded from the transport vehicle using a telehandler
• carried approximately 100 to 200 metres through the marina
• manoeuvred safely around boats and other obstacles
• suspended from the telehandler forks
• rotated freely through approximately 90 degrees
• aligned and lowered onto its prepared base
• completed with the final chimney installation
• filled with approximately 150 kg of sauna stones

The finished sauna combines a spacious interior, premium enclosed bench fronts, a powerful Harvia Legend 240 GreenFlame stove and a distinctive green shingle roof.

It is now available to members of the marina, providing them with a traditional Finnish sauna experience in one of Dublin’s most impressive coastal locations.
