Commercial Sauna Installation in County Limerick near Mitchelstown

For this commercial sauna project in County Limerick, close to Mitchelstown in County Cork, Polaris Sauna installed a 3.0m Premium Cube Sauna on a prepared concrete base.

The sauna was supplied as a flat-pack and assembled on site by a two-person team over three days. Good access to the installation area allowed all components, tools and materials to be brought directly to the prepared location without the need for specialist lifting equipment.

A key feature of the project is the externally fired wood-burning stove. Staff can manage the fire from outside the sauna without entering the sauna room or disturbing customers during their sessions.

Project Overview

The sauna was supplied with the following configuration:

  • 3.0m Premium Cube Sauna
  • 2.3m high and 2.2m wide
  • designed for commercial use
  • solid Thermowood construction
  • black shingles extending down the curved sides
  • standard bench configuration
  • Harvia 20 SL externally fired wood-burning stove
  • stove safety shields and sauna stones
  • two front windows
  • full timber entrance door
  • clear-glass half-moon rear window
  • LED lighting along the benches
  • additional timber protection guard around the stove

Prepared Concrete Foundation and Good Site Access

Before delivery, the customer prepared a firm and level concrete base.

A stable foundation is important for any outdoor sauna, as it supports the structure and helps ensure that the walls, roof and entrance door remain correctly aligned.

The installation area was easily accessible from the delivery point. This allowed the flat-pack components to be carried directly to the concrete base and organised close to the final sauna position.

As no crane or telehandler was required, the installation team could begin assembly immediately.

Three-Day Flat-Pack Installation

The Premium Cube Sauna was assembled by two installers over three days.

The work included:

  • positioning and aligning the floor structure
  • assembling the Thermowood walls
  • fitting the front and rear windows
  • installing the full timber entrance door
  • constructing the curved roof
  • applying the black shingles
  • fitting the benches and interior elements
  • installing the LED lighting
  • fitting the stove and chimney system
  • constructing the additional stove protection guard
  • carrying out the final inspection and commissioning

Once the main structure was complete, the walls, roof, benches and door were checked carefully to ensure that everything was stable and correctly aligned.

Thermowood Construction and Full Shingle Coverage

The sauna is constructed from solid Thermowood.

Thermowood is particularly suitable for outdoor sauna construction because of its dimensional stability and its ability to cope with changing temperatures and moisture levels.

The exterior was finished with black shingles extending across the roof and down the curved side walls.

This full shingle coverage gives the Premium Cube its distinctive appearance while also providing additional protection from rain, wind and moisture.

The contrast between the natural Thermowood and black shingles creates a modern finish suited to a commercial wellness setting.

Externally Fired Harvia 20 SL Stove

The sauna was fitted with a Harvia 20 SL wood-burning stove.

Unlike a conventional stove that is loaded from inside the sauna, the Harvia 20 SL is fired through an opening in the exterior wall.

This allows staff to add firewood, manage the fire and remove ash from outside.

For a commercial sauna, this is a practical advantage. Customers do not need to be disturbed when more firewood is required, and the entrance door can remain closed during operation.

It also keeps firewood handling and routine stove maintenance separate from the customer area.

The stove was installed together with the required safety shields, sauna stones and chimney components.

Additional Protection Around the Stove

An additional timber protection guard was constructed around the stove.

The guard creates a physical barrier between sauna users and the hot stove surfaces, reducing the risk of accidental contact.

This is particularly valuable in a commercial sauna, where customers may not be familiar with the internal layout.

The protection guard clearly defines the stove area while still allowing heat to circulate freely through the sauna room.

Interior Layout, Windows and Lighting

The sauna was supplied with the standard bench configuration, providing different seating levels and a clear central walkway.

Two windows were installed in the front wall on either side of the full timber entrance door.

A clear-glass half-moon window in the rear wall brings additional daylight into the sauna and creates a visual connection with the surrounding area.

LED lighting was installed along the benches to provide soft, indirect illumination. This creates a calm atmosphere and highlights the natural timber interior.

Commissioning and Handover

After installation, the sauna was inspected and commissioned.

The final checks included:

  • structural alignment and stability
  • entrance door operation
  • bench installation
  • stove safety distances
  • protective shields and stove guard
  • chimney installation and draught
  • LED lighting
  • general interior and exterior finish

The stove was then fired to confirm that the chimney drew correctly and that the heating system operated as intended.
